Sue S. Toolan, 71, of Groton, passed away on June 26, 2024 at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Sue was born January 29, 1953 in Cortland, a daughter of the late Alfred T. and Doris (Dittenheffer) Snyder. A lifelong area resident, Sue graduated from Cortland Central School and attended Tompkins Cortland Community College.
Sue owned and operated the Groton Hotel with her husband, Dennis, for over 35 years. She transformed the landmark establishment into a widely regarded place of fine dining and hospitality. Her talents and creativity were gifted to the community in many ways, as she provided enthusiastic support to the many local organizations, businesses and families. Sue excelled at events planning and hostessing.
Her love of antiques, collectibles, history and artwork reflected throughout the Hotel, and inspired Sue to establish "Antiquities," an antique store which she had operated until recent months.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Toolan; sons Jeffrey and Cory; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Sue was predeceased by her sisters, Judy Brown, Mary Lou Snyder, and Virginia Toomey.
