Sharon Emerald (Pierce) Wyant

Sharon Emerald (Pierce) Wyant, known to many as Sherry, was born on July 1, 1946 in Ithaca, NY to Emerald and Drusilla (Court) Pierce, and she passed away unexpectedly at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY on April 5, 2024. 

Sherry is survived by her children: daughter, Crystal Wyant of Homer, son, Steve (Tammy Custer) Wyant of McGraw, daughter,Tamara (Michael) Flacco of Cortland, daughter, Jennifer Wyant of Ithaca, and son, Shawn (Michelle Marshall-King) Wyant of Cortland; sister, Linda (Pete) Wilbur; brother, Kevin Pierce; and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her former husband/best friend, Gerald (Jake) Wyant; her brother, Clifford; sister, Lorri (David) Stevens; granddaughter, Rochelle Elizabeth Boardman; daughter-in-law, Tanya (Hollenbeck) Wyant; and her Aunt Sylvia (Sivy) and Uncle Larry Woernley.  

She was a very active woman to the day of her passing. She was the former owner/operator of Guardian Angel Café and Gift Shop in Marketplace Mall in Cortland (with the help of her best friend, Wade Jacobson) and later relocated to Homer. She also owned/operated the Guardian Angel Ceramics, originally out of her home in Moravia, until they relocated to Cortland. She loved music and dancing and enjoyed spending time at the Country Music Park, often volunteering in the kitchen. She spent many years square dancing with family and friends, and in younger years as well. She loved crocheting and taught her daughter, Crystal, and she often enjoyed sewing, painting and instructing ceramic classes.  

There will be no calling hours/funeral services upon her request, but her family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shurtleff Funeral Home, Groton.  Condolences may be shared at www.shurtleffservices.com .
