Margaret (Maggie) Forsythe Lippincott, 87, of Genoa, was sleeping peacefully at
home when she entered her eternal rest on October 24, 2023.
She was the eldest daughter of Gilbert and Catherine (Finn) Forsythe, born on
December 22, 1935 in Waverly, NY. She graduated from Owego Free Academy
in 1953. Shortly after, she met and married Jim Lippincott and for the next 35
years followed his adventurous lifestyle of stock car racing, soaring and traveling
extensively throughout the USA. This eventually led the family from New York to
settle in Amarillo, TX. Maggie obtained a Texas Real Estate license and worked
part time until Jim’s untimely passing in 1991. Following her loss, Maggie,
supplemented her income by creating two characters. She attended, and
graduated, from Clown School and became “Tully the Clown” and sang for
parties as "Maggie Sings the Blues." Maggie attended Amarillo College, where
she studied fine arts, journalism and theatre. She was involved in musical
theatre, drama radio and television production and the visual arts. During her
time at Amarillo College, she was the editor of the the college newspaper, “The
Ranger.”
She was a poet, artist, performer and made friends where ever she went.
Maggie was a communicant of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon, TX and a
former member of St. Patrick's Church in Owego, NY. She was very active in the
Pro-Life movement working with the “Priests For Life” causing major changes in
the abortion industry in Texas. In addition Maggie, was a Third Order Franciscan
and Eucharistic Minister. In June she returned to NY to live with her daughter in
Genoa and was able to meet all of her East Coast grandchildren and great
grandchildren and to see the trees in bloom.
She is survived by her daughters: Kathleen Fairweather (Guy), of Moravia, Mary
Violet (Al), of Tampa, FL, Carol Chase (Gary), of Denton, TX, Barbara Lonsky
(Steve), of Genoa; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and, a brother,
John Forsythe, of Owego.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James P.
Lippincott in 1991; her sons, James G. Patrick F, and Russell P; also a brother,
William Forsythe; and a sister, Mary “Mimi” Fisher.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, November 21 at St.
Patrick's Church in Owego. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. There
are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shurtleff Funeral
Home, Genoa, NY.
