Loren P. "Sonny" Aiken

Loren P. "Sonny" Aiken, 85, of Groton, passed away on July 26, 2024 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira after a brief illness.

Sonny was born on August 9, 1938 in Wood County, West Virginia, a son of the late Harry and Nora (McIntosh) Aiken.

An area resident most of his life, he worked for Smith Corona Marchant (SCM) for 35 years. Sonny thereafter joined the staff at George Junior Republic (the William George Agency), working in the grounds maintenance operations and as a tractor safety educator for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Weaver) Aiken; his children: Jared Aiken (Amber), of McGraw, Zelia Kellogg (Kevin), of Knoxville, TN, and Cindy Carter, of Marathon; grandchildren: Daniel, Donna, & Savannah Aiken, Mackenzie Kellogg, and Jeremy Hanford; great-grandchildren: Madison and Justin Hanford; a brother, James Aiken (Elaine); and a sister, Ruth Johnson (Jerry). 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 2 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Avenue, Groton with interment to follow in McLean Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, preceding the services.
