Grace D. Turo

Grace D. Turo, 70, formerly of Locke, passed away on April 3, 2025 at Hospicare & Palliative Care Services in Ithaca.

She was born February 21, 1955 in Auburn, a daughter of the late Gordon "Donald" and Barbara (Thurston) Gross. A resident of southern Cayuga County for most of her life, she retired from Cornell University, where for many years she was a cook and house parent at the sororities. In her younger years, Grace enjoyed horseback riding and traveled to Florida. In her later years, she enjoyed time with her kids and grandchildren, and her dog Teddy.

She is survived by her son, Paul Turo (Aubin), of Dunkirk, NY, and daughter, Tanya Thompson (Aaron), of Lansing; and by her grandchildren: Erin Thompson (19), Ryan Thompson (17), Thane Turo (15), and Gage & Shea Turo (9).

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 10117 State Route 90, Genoa. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon - 2:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home, preceding services. Interment will follow in Scipio Rural Cemetery.
