Gordon "Gordy" C. Shults, 62, of Groton, passed away at home on March 30, 2024.
He was born November 2, 1961 in Cortland, son of Elizabeth (Tompkins) Conger and the late Charles Shults. A lifelong area resident, Gordy graduated with the Groton Central School Class of 1980 and had been employed as a machinist with several local companies, and more recently was a general handyman. He tended bar for many years at Post 800 American Legion in Groton.
He was a longtime member of the Carrington-Fuller Post 800 Sons of the American Legion (SAL), serving many years as their Finance Officer and as a member of the Post's Honors Team. He participated in the Legion's Horseshoe and Shot in the Dart Leagues.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth T. "Betty" Conger, of Groton; his brother, Michael Shults (Suzette) of Enfield; a son, Curtis Shults, of Cortland; grandsons, Kai and Sylas Shults; nephew, Dillon Shults (Emma); cousins and extended family. Special thanks is expressed to his faithful caregivers, Serena (Adams) Sill and Laura (Shults) Riggs.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Avenue, Groton. There are no prior calling hours. Interment at a later time will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden.
