Elsie M. Todd

Elsie M. Todd, 87, of Cortland, passed away on December 29, 2024 at Crown Park Rehabilitation Center.

Elsie was born on November 24, 1937 in Summerhill and was a longtime resident of the McGraw and Groton areas. She was an inspector at Smith Corona (SCM), where she was employed for 28 years. She worked afterward as an assistant in the Groton High School cafeteria for eight years.

Elsie was an active member of the Cortland Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she demonstrated a great love to her faith and church family, ever toiling in helping others. 

She is survived by her sisters: Pearl McKane, Betty Quail, and Regina Foster; brothers, William Hayes (Vicky), Kenneth Hayes, and Richard Barnhart; daughters-in-law, Nancy Wall and Karen Todd; grandchildren: Desiree, Randall, and Kala Todd; five great-grandchildren; and a much extended family of step-children and step-grandchildren; step-brothers and step-sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

In addition to her parents, Herbert and Marie (Smith) Hayes, she was predeceased by her husband, Neil L. Todd, in 1996; two sons, Daniel Wall and Randall Todd; brothers: Chester, George, John, & Herbert Hayes, and Randall Barnhart; and sisters: Beverly Smith and Rita Truax.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 6 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Avenue, Groton. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 - 3:00 PM, preceding the service. Spring interment will be in the McGraw Village Cemetery.
