Edward R. Sharpsteen, 86, formerly of Locke, passed away on July 4, 2024 in Stuart, FL.
He was born on May 4, 1938, a son of the late Rodney and Kathleen "Kye" (Lisdell) Sharpsteen.
Ed served most honorably with the US military for 25 years, retiring in 1980 as a Technical Sergeant with the US Air Force. He served previously with the 11th Airborne Division of the US Army (1955-58) and the US Army Reserve (1959-61), enlisting thereafter with the Air Force and serving throughout the VietNam War.
Returning home, he further served his community for several terms as Town of Locke Highway Superintendent. He was a life member of the Clifford Galbraith Post # 7127, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Moravia, and was also a member of Carrington-Fuller Post 800 American Legion, Groton.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie (Bancroft) Sharpsteen; one son, SGM (Ret) William R. Sharpsteen; four stepchildren: Julianne Rieks, J. Jess Rieks, Sheila Rieks Saxton, & Joan Rieks Weir; and a very extended Sharpsteen family.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 22 in Bird Cemetery, Locke. Local arrangements are with the Shurtleff Funeral Home, and online condolences may be shared at www.shurtleffservices.com .
