January 29, 1970 — November 16, 2024

Cortland

Alene D. Heath, 54, of Cortland, passed away at home on November 16, 2024 after a short illness.

Alene was born on January 29, 1970 in Cortland, a daughter of Malcolm E. and Bonnie Ann (Snyder) Heath, who survive her.

A lifelong Cortland area resident, she was a graduate of the Cortland Jr.-Sr. High School. She graduated from Tompkins Community Hospital’s Radiographer Program as a certified radiographer and passed NYS Examination for her license. She was employed with Tompkins Community Hospital, Crouse Hospital, Dryden Family Medicine, and most recently with Cortland Memorial Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Colby and Macy Griffin, of Freeville; her grandchildren, Riley, Karley, and Braxley; a sister and brother-in-law, Mellora (Douglas) Paucke, and their sons, Zachary & Caleb; and a brother and sister-in-law, Derron (Manetta) Heath, and nephews, Matthew & Noah Heath.

Alene loved horses and dogs. She enjoyed the out of doors winter and summer. She Cross Country Skied with her father and siblings, ice skated, snowmobiled, went sledding with her son and cousins; did lots of camping with friends and family, and spent many pleasant happy summers swimming at DeRuyter Lake at her Great Uncle Allen and Great Aunt Berthena Heath’s camp. Reading was also one of her favorite things to do and collecting memorabilia regarding Princess Diana and the royal family.

She accepted her cancer diagnosis and never railed at God and endured the pain and suffering.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, and interment will be in the McGraw Village Cemetery.

Contributions, in lieu of flowers, are graciously directed to the First United Methodist Church, 734 NY-222, Cortland, NY 13045, or to the Country Acres Pet Services, 5852 West Scott Rd, Homer, NY 13077.
